Divergent Edition: Day Four

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact me on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with other players once they are eliminated.

THE PLAYERS

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Amber @ The Mile Long Bookshelf as Zeke, Team Dauntless, Townie
  • [NIGHT] Georgia @ The Reader Ramblings as Myra, Team Dauntless, Townie
  • [NIGHT] Briana @ Pages Unbound as Drew, Team Dauntless, Paranoid Cop (all investigation results show NOT Dauntless)

Warnings/Disqualifications/Other:

  • [WITHDREW] Charlotte @ Gypsy Reviews has requested to withdraw from the game due to her limited availability.
  • [REPLACEMENT] Sana @ Artsy Musings of a Bibliophile has taken over for Charlotte.
  • [COMA] Amy @ Amy Bookworm is in a coma until further notice due to her limited availability.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Can I just say, wow! That was by far the craziest final hour in the Bookish Games yet. When I left there were approximately 150 comments on the post, and by the time I came back there were over 200. I guess I really can’t leave you guys alone for too long. (I just hope you guys have a greater appreciation for the work that goes into this game, including those silly Voting Updates. Thanks to Miranda and Nadia for trying to keep those going.)

Please make sure you took the time to look at the notes above. Charlotte has requested to be replaced due to being tied up with school work; she has been replaced by Sana. Amy is starting off Day Four in a coma as she is unsure if she’ll be able to comment at all this week. If she awakes from her coma before the day is over (notifies me that she is available to comment twice this week) then I will notify you in advance.

I’m really curious to see how this Day goes, after the explosion at the end of Day Three. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact me. Otherwise, have fun and good luck! 🙂

It is now Day Four. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Hm… interesting results from Night Two. No eliminations. I wonder what that means? (Muhahaha…) But hey, better to lose no one than someone on your team, right?

You guys know what to do: voice your suspicions and vote! Good luck, and may the best team win.

It is now Day Three. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Charli @ To Another World as Tori, Doctor (able to protect one person each Night), Team Dauntless
  • [NIGHT] Rinn @ Rinn Reads as Caleb, Roleblocker (able to block one person from power each Night), Team Erudite

Warnings/Disqualifications:

  • [WARNING] Andrea @ Books and Bindings – did not meet 2 comment minimum Day One

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Thanks for the active participation in Day One! Aside from one person who didn’t meet the two comment minimum, everything went really well. Even though it was a bit more intense than previous games, I appreciate the fact that players were taking the game seriously and ready to play. And hey, maybe it payed off, because it’s only been one Day and Night and yet two teams are already revealed…

What can you learn from the death of a doctor on Day One? And what does it mean that an Erudite was eliminated Night One? Good luck trying to figure it all out! 😉

It is now Day Two!  Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes.  Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated!

Oooh, like the graphic? You can thank Kelley for that beauty! Each week when a player is eliminated their identity will be revealed in the graphic above showing their alliance, identity, and role.

Game Master’s Notes

Final tips and reminders before we start:

  • Because it is Day One, you really have nothing to base your votes or suspicions off of yet. Have fun and vote however you want. You will still learn valuable things by observing who defends who and how people respond to votes.
  • Remember when casting your vote to bold and capitalize it so I can easily keep track. (For example: VOTE: ASTI.) You can do this by putting < b > tags < / b > around your vote (just remove the spaces). Also, it would be smart to double check my vote tallies when they pop up to ensure I spotted your vote as mistakes do happen.
  • You can also choose not to vote. Votes can be cancelled by commenting CANCEL VOTE. But, as a warning to those on the side of the good guys, Day votes are your own real chance of eliminating any evil forces in the game. Do you really want to let your own chance at eliminating the baddies just disappear?
  • Please do not click the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment if you want to respond to what they’ve said. Instead, just start a new comment at the bottom and state within your comment who you are replying to (players usually do this by saying @Name: Blah blah blah).  With so many players, it’s easiest if comments appear in chronological order.
  • Lastly, please make sure you are familiar with the Bookish Games rules. It is assumed by now that you have read and agreed to the rules. Please follow them so we can have a good game!

It is now Day One!

Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated!

Divergent Edition: Sign-Ups

Ladies and gentlemen (wherever you boys are at), it is time for the next edition of the Bookish Games! This time around the gameplay will be inspired by Veronica Roth’s first book in her Divergent series, Divergent. (I think it’s only fitting since the movie has just been released.) And this time I’ll have my own little side-kick to help me moderate the game: my lovely co-blogger Kelley!

About the Bookish Games

If you do not know what the Bookish Games are, where have you been!? (Just kidding!) The Bookish Games is a feature I brought over with me from A Bookish Heart which combines books and Mafia.

If you would like to see an example of previous Bookish Games featured on my past blog, you can look at the Harry Potter edition page or The Hunger Games edition page. On each page you’ll see the set-up, the rules, the players, and a recap of what happened during each day in the game.

Basically, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys have small numbers but know who their teammates are. The good guys have large numbers, but know nothing other than their own personal identity. Each “Day” they all get together as one group and vote for one person to eliminate from the game. (The bad guys use this as their opportunity to sway the good guys for voting one of their own, while the good guys use this time to try and figure out which side everyone is on based on what they say and how they vote.) Each “Night” only the bad guys get together (in their private chatroom) and choose to kill off one person from the game.

It sounds really confusing, and it slightly is, but those who sign up will be given a more in-depth description of the game in an email before the game starts. It always starts off a little slow in the beginning, but everyone quickly catches on and I (or Kelley) am always here to help! (But really, the best way to learn is just by playing!)

Divergent Edition Sign-Ups

The game is going to start on Saturday, April 5th, which is two weeks from today. Sign-ups for the game will be open until Tuesday the 25th, and there is only twenty spots available. Because the amount of players who can play is smaller than before, there are some slight changes to how the sign-ups work.

The goal is to have ten new players and ten returning players. The first ten people to sign up who have never played the game before will automatically get a spot in the game. For those who have played the game before, it will be slightly different. The first ten returning players to sign-up will get a spot, only if they have never received a warning or disqualification from a previous game. Players who have had either a warning or disqualification will only be given a spot if there are some still available after the deadline. Any players who don’t make the final list of players will be put on a list to be contacted if we need someone replaced during the game.

I apologize to those who might think this new sign-up method is a bit unfair. In the last game, there were too many issues with player activity even though the rules do state that commenting twice a day is required (unless I am contacted in advance). Kelley and I are hoping with this new sign-up strategy we will have a great mix of active players for the next game.

To sign up, just leave a comment below! (Kelley and I will be updating the sign-up list on this post.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Each Bookish Games is inspired by a certain book, but this is the first time that the game contains an element that I think some may consider a spoiler. It doesn’t have to do with character deaths or anything like that (because really, that is up to the players in the game), but is something you wouldn’t know just by reading the book blurb. Please sign-up and play at your own risk.
