Death Note Edition: Day Four

BookishGames_DeathNote2

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact me on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with other players once they are eliminated.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Ouch! After gathering each results from the previous Day and Night, I keep thinking to myself it can’t get any worse for The World Team. Well, obviously I’m wrong. Not only did The World Team miss out on a majority vote during Day Three, but they lost a major player during Night Three. I guess on the bright side there is the fact that there was only one Night elimination, so at least The World Team didn’t lose two players like they did in previous nights. But still. Bad times. Bad, bad times.

I always end up saying during these games that I think the bad guys might finally win one. This time I just might be right. You’re running out of time (and players) The World Team. You better pull yourselves together and make sure you use your opportunity to get a baddy eliminated during this Day, instead of standing by as nothing happens. Good luck!

It is now Day Four. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Francine @ The Perks of Being Francine Soleil as Aizawa, Deputy (back-up Cop), The World Team
  • [NIGHT] Maz @ My Kinda Culture as Hideki, Townie, The World Team
  • [NIGHT] Emily @ Reverie Rhapsody as Matsuda, Naive Cop, The World Team

Coma:

  • [COMA] Tabitha @ Not Yet Read will not be participating this week due to craziness at work. Her confirmed coma means that she does not have to meet the two-comment minimum this week, but she still can be eliminated via player votes.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Well. The World Team. You guys are definitely hurting here. It is only Day Three and already six of you are eliminated. Even worse? Some of them had some pretty powerful roles. What are you going to do?! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DOOOOOOOO?!

I don’t know! But whatever you plan on doing, you better do it now. If you don’t, it might be too late…

It is now Day Three. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Death Note Edition: Day Two

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

THE PLAYERS

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Izzy @ Books With Izzy as Ray Penber, Townie (no special powers), The World Team
  • [NIGHT] Cayce @ Fighting Dreamer as Chief Soichiro Yagami, Cop (investigates alliance of one player each Night), The World Team
  • [NIGHT] Thao @ Paper Bunny as Mogi, Nurse (protects one player each Night, if Doctor is eliminated), The World Team

Warnings/Disqualifications:

  • [WARNING] Lesley Marie @ Books and Beautiful World did not meet 2 comment minimum Day One

Coma for Day Two:

  • [COMA] Megan @ Adrift on Vulcan will not be participating this week as she is on vacation and doesn’t have access to her laptop. Her confirmed coma means that she does not have to meet the two-comment minimum this week, but she still can be eliminated via player votes.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Well, this isn’t good news for the good guys. I think in the end The World Team made the right choice by eliminating Izzy, as her lack of participation proved that she was no help for the team and there was no way the evil forces would get rid of her when they can eliminate key players. But I wasn’t quite expecting to see that they would suffer such a bad blow afterwards, losing both their Cop and Nurse. It’s time to get serious! Think carefully about who you can or cannot trust, and make a move before it’s too late. (Because surely it’s not too late already? It’s only Day Two!)

It is now Day Two. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Death Note Edition: Day One

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book (or in this case, a popular manga) is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact Asti on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with players who have been eliminated.

Game Master’s Notes

Some final tips and reminders before we start:

  • Because it is Day One, you really have nothing to base your votes or suspicions off of yet. Have fun and vote however you want. You will still learn valuable things by observing who defends who and how people respond to votes.
  • Remember when casting your vote to make them easy for the game masters to spot. This can be done by putting your vote in ALL CAPS on its own separate line from the rest of your text. Also, it would be smart to double check the vote tallies posted in the comment section to make sure your votes are counted, as mistakes do happen.
  • You can also choose not to vote. Votes can be cancelled by commenting CANCEL VOTE. But, as a warning to those on the side of the good guys, Day votes are your own real chance of eliminating any evil forces in the game. Use them!
  • Please do not click the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment if you want to respond to what they’ve said. Instead, just start a new comment at the bottom and state within your comment who you are replying to (players usually do this by saying “@Name: Blah blah blah”).  With so many players, it’s easiest if comments appear in chronological order.
  • Lastly, please make sure you are familiar with the Bookish Games rules. It is assumed by now that you have read and agreed to the rules. Please follow them so we can have a good game!

It is now Day One. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Death Note Edition: Sign-Ups

In case you aren’t yet aware, Kelley has convinced Asti to make this round of The Bookish Games themed around one of her all-time favorite anime series: Death Note! We hope that this will be a fun experience for those who are already fans of the series, as well as those who are new to it.

About the Bookish Games

Surely you all know what the Bookish Games are by now, right? Well, just incase you’ve been living under a rock…

The Bookish Games is a feature that Asti started while blogging at A Bookish Heart. It combines various books (usually YA) and Mafia to create an online interactive bookish game that takes place every couple of months. The previous editions of the Bookish Games included Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. If you visit the pages for each, you’ll see the different set-ups, rules, players, and recaps of what took place in each game.

Basically, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys have a smaller team but have the advantage of knowing the identity of their teammates. The good guys have a larger team, but know nothing other than their own personal identity. Each “Day” all players, good and bad, get together as one group and vote for one person to eliminate from the game. (The bad guys use this as their opportunity to sway the good guys to voting one of their own, while the good guys use this time to try and figure out which side everyone is on based on what they say and how they vote.) Then, each “Night”, the bad guys get another chance to wreak havoc by communicating in a private chatroom and targeting one person to kill off in the game.

It sounds really confusing, and it slightly is, but those who sign up will be given a more in-depth description of the game in an email before the game starts. It always starts off a little slow in the beginning, but everyone quickly catches on and Kelley and Asti are always available if you need help!

Sign-Ups

The game is going to start on Saturday, July 5th, which is two weeks from today. Sign-ups for the game will be open until Tuesday the 25th, and there are 24 spots available. Last time, we made sure that half of the players were veterans and half of the spots were kept open for new players. This time, things might not turn out that way — although we want everyone to get a chance to play.

Since this version of the Games is being themed after a manga and anime series, and thus might not be as widely known as our previous themes, we are likely going to give preference to those of you who are already familiar with the series. Please make sure you let us know if you’ve already read/seen Death Note in your sign-up comment! (That isn’t to say that you can’t join if you aren’t familiar with the series. We just don’t want to spoil the series for you if you haven’t experienced it yourself yet.)

To sign up, just leave a comment below. We will be updating the sign-up list on this post as we check the comments. If you see your name on the main list, then you should expect to receive an email with further information within the week. And if you end up on the waiting list – don’t worry! We usually require at least one replacement during the games so there is a chance you’ll be contacted.
