Harry Potter Edition: Day Four

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that is hosted here at A Bookish Heart quarterly. For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact me on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with other players once they are eliminated.

Game Master’s Notes

Since the game has started, Team Dumbledore’s Army has lost ten players! I’m starting to wonder if I forgot to create any evil forces! Oh, but wait, people keep being killed off at Night. Some bad guys must exist in this game somewhere…

It is now Day Four

Everyone has until Wednesday 4pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes.  Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated (unless, like Day Three, there is a tie)!

Game Master’s Notes

Um… Yikes! Between disqualifications and eliminations, it is quite the bloodbath this week. Team Dumbledore’s Army, you better get your act together because your numbers are dwindling fast. But hey, it should be easier to keep track of the comments now…

Oh, and because I assume Roles will start being discussed more as a result of the Night’s kills, I want to remind you that all the Roles I used for this game were pulled from this page. If you played last game (v. The Hunger Games), you may want to take a look at it because there are some different ones from before.

It is now Day Three

None yet… But by the next game day I’m sure I’ll have a couple listed here… Dum dum dummmmmm…

Gameplay

Final tips and reminders before we start:

  • Because it is Day One, you really have nothing to base your votes or suspicions off of yet. Have fun and vote however you want. You will still learn valuable things by observing who defends who and how people respond to votes.
  • Remember when casting your vote to bold and capitalize it so I can easily keep track. (For example: VOTE: ASTI.) Also, it would be smart to double check my vote tallies when they pop up to ensure I spotted your vote as mistakes do happen.
  • You can also choose not to vote. Voting is optional, and you can also cancel a vote made by stating CANCEL VOTE. But, as a warning to those on the side of Harry Potter, Day votes are your own real chance of eliminating any evil forces in the game. A Day can go without anyone being eliminated, but you know at Night the opposing teams won’t be so nice.
  • Please do not click the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment if you want to respond to what they’ve said. With so many players, it’s easiest if comments appear in chronological order. Instead, just start a new comment at the bottom and state who you are replying to.
  • If you have a week you cannot participate (exams, illness, etc.) please let me know by email as soon as you can. I will announce that your character is in a “coma” for that week. Other players may still kill you off, but you won’t be disqualified or receive a warning about participation.
  • And in case anyone is curious, there will be no videos this time around. Sorry!

It is now Day One!  Everyone has until Wednesday 6pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes.  Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated!

Harry Potter Edition: Sign-Ups

It’s that time again! The Bookish Games are back, and this time it’s Harry Potter themed.

Now, if you have no idea what I’m talking about, I recommend checking out the last version of The Bookish Games (themed The Hunger Games). It’s more or less an interactive game that takes place in the comments for a month or so, based off the game Mafia or Werewolf which you may have had experience playing with in real life.

Basically, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys know who they are and they know who is on their team. They get together each “Night” in the game and choose some poor person to kill. Their whole goal is to eliminate everyone so they’re the last people standing. The good guys though? They know nothing. Instead, they have to use what is said in the comments and what deaths happen at “Night” to try and figure out what the heck is going on. Their only chance to get rid of the baddies is through a group vote that happens every “Day”.

It sounds really confusing, and it slightly is, but those who sign up will be given a more in-depth description of the game. You can also look at the Game Rules and General Rules on The Rules page. (The best way to learn it is by playing it though. So don’t worry! Everyone starts off slightly confused.)

The game is going to start on the last day of November, Saturday the 30th, which is two weeks from today. Sign-ups for the game will be open for a week, but only the first twenty-four players will be guaranteed a spot in the game. Depending on how many people are interested, I may be able to include a couple more roles to fit in extra people. If not, anyone extra will be placed on the Replacement List to be put into the game if other players withdraw. Those who are in the top twenty-four spots will be sent an email by next Saturday with further directions on how to play the game along with their super secret roles.

To sign up, just leave a comment below! (I will be updating the sign-up list on this post.)
