Ready Player One Edition: Day Four

BookishGames_RP1Final

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact me on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with other players once they are eliminated.

THE PLAYERS

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Orli @ Blame My Bookshelf as Aech, Townie, Team Gunters
  • [NIGHT] Dave as Galaga, Townie, Team Gunters

Warnings/Disqualifications:

  • [REPLACEMENT] Ashly @ Book ‘n’ Go has been replaced by Claire
  • [REPLACEMENT] Dana @ The Nerdy Journalist has been replaced by Sarah

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUNNNNN! Dave got eliminated and Asti’s so angry about it that she made ME write the notes this week. Actually, I just made that up, but Dave DID get eliminated and look at that — he was a Gunter! You guys better step up your game or the mafia is going to eliminate your whole team AND find all the keys AND win the ultimate treasure.

Also, please note that Claire and Sarah have replaced Ashly and Dana, but things should proceed smoothly from here, and hopefully there will be more interaction all around. Make your team proud this week, dudes! -K

It is now Day Four. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Well, that didn’t quite go to plan, did it? Everyone seemed to be quite confused by vvb and her gameplay, and yet she was just another innocent Gunter. And then the Night comes and goes, only for us to find that another Gunter, Anne, has been eliminated from the game. Two days down, Four good guys gone. What to do next?

There is no longer any excuse to say “I don’t know who to vote for”. You can look at comments (or lack thereof) and votes (or lack thereof) from the past two days to build your ideas of who is on which team. Have any players said anything that make you think they know more than they should? Does any of the deaths give you hints at who might possibly be behind these deaths? Has there been any strong influencers who are leading everyone astray? On, on the other end, is there someone who seems to be purposely hiding under the radar? There are SO many possibilities. All you need to do is open your eyes.

And let me take this time to remind those Team Gunters who are still alive, voting is your only chance to eliminate a Mafia member. If you do not talk about your suspicions and get the votes going, then get ready to dig your grave. It’s hard to share suspicions and get yourself in the spotlight, I know, but it’s now or never. You never know when you might be next.

One last thing before this Day begins, regarding the scoreboard. The points are not there to influence the game in any way. There is a method as to how they are rewarded, as I’m sure you can easily find out, but they’re more or less there just because we thought it was a shame to not do something with the points! You can use it if it helps you in any way, but generally speaking, it wasn’t designed as some kind of hint or clue in the game. [scores removed from graphic during import.]

Now, enough talking on my end. Good luck players!

It is now Day Three. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

THE PLAYERS

RP1-Day-Two

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Jaden @ Potterhead Daydreams as I-R0k, Miller (if investigated, results show NOT Team Gunter), Team Gunters
  • [NIGHT] Sana @ Artsy Musings of a Bibliophile as Daito, Mason (able to communicate with fellow Mason at anytime during Day/Night), Team Gunters

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Congrats to most of you for surviving the first Day and Night of the Bookish Games! Two Gunter players were lost, which is a shame, but is nothing new when it comes to the games. What matters now is what you do next. Is there a reason why these two individuals were eliminated? Was it random, or a coordinated move with a specific purpose? Has anyone said anything that doesn’t seem right? Do you just have a feeling that someone is up to no good? Now is the time to think things through and make a move.

Good luck, and let’s hope Team Gunters doesn’t end this Day with another loss.

It is now Day Two. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

The Player Scoreboard

RP1-Day-One

Each week when a player is eliminated their username (identity) will be revealed in the graphic above and their score will change to ‘GAME OVER’.

If the eliminated player had any special powers specific to them (not artifacts) those will be revealed in the announcement of their death.

Any artifacts that player may have had will not be announced but instead be transferred to one of the people responsible for his/her death. If a limited-use artifact is used up during the game, it’s name and power will be revealed, but it’s owner will not be provided. In other words, we will use this section to reveal what information we can throughout the game, but don’t expect us to tell you everything. 😉

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Some final tips and reminders before we start:

  • Because it is Day One, you really have nothing to base your votes or suspicions off of yet. Have fun and vote however you want. You will still learn valuable things by observing who defends who and how people respond to votes.
  • Remember when casting your vote to make them easy for the game masters to spot. This can be done by putting your vote in ALL CAPS on its own separate line from the rest of your text. Also, it would be smart to double check the vote tallies posted in the comment section to make sure your votes are counted, as mistakes do happen.
  • You can also choose not to vote. Votes can be cancelled by commenting CANCEL VOTE. But, as a warning to those on the side of the good guys, Day votes are your only real chance of eliminating any evil forces in the game. Use them!
  • Please do not click the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment if you want to respond to what they’ve said. Instead, just type a new comment in response to the post and state within your comment who you are replying to (players usually do this by saying “@Name: Blah blah blah”).  With so many players, it’s easiest if comments appear in chronological order.
  • Lastly, please make sure you are familiar with the Bookish Games rules. It is assumed by now that you have read and agreed to the rules. Please follow them so we can have a good game!

It is now Day One. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Ready Player One Edition: Sign-Ups

BookishGames_RP1Final

That’s right, folks: this round of the Bookish Games is themed around one of our favorite books: Ready Player One! Are you ready to play?!*

*OMG we are so punny.

About the Bookish Games

Surely you all know what the Bookish Games are by now, right? Well, just in case you’ve been living under a rock…

The Bookish Games is a feature that Asti started while blogging at A Bookish Heart. It combines various books (usually YA) and Mafia to create an online interactive bookish game that takes place every couple of months. The previous editions of the Bookish Games included Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Death Note. If you visit the pages for each, you’ll see the different set-ups, rules, players, and recaps of what took place in each game.

Basically, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys have a smaller team but have the advantage of knowing the identity of their teammates. The good guys have a larger team, but know nothing other than their own personal identity. Each “Day” all players, good and bad, get together as one group and vote for one person to eliminate from the game. (The bad guys use this as their opportunity to sway the good guys to voting off one of their own, while the good guys use this time to try and figure out which side everyone is on based on what they say and how they vote.) Then, each “Night”, the bad guys get another chance to wreak havoc by communicating in a private chatroom and targeting one person to kill off in the game.

It sounds really confusing, and it slightly is, but those who sign up will be given a more in-depth description of the game in an email before the game starts. It always starts off a little slow in the beginning, but everyone quickly catches on and Kelley and Asti are always available if you need help!

Sign-Ups

The game is going to start on Saturday, October 25th, which is two weeks from today. Sign-ups for the game will be open until Wednesday the 15th, and there are 19 spots available. As we have done in the previous two games, ideally we would like to have approximately half of the players be veterans and half be new players, but we will see how things go!

To sign up, just leave a comment below! We will be updating the sign-up list on this post as we check the comments. If you see your name on the main list, then you should expect to receive an email with further information within the week. And if you end up on the waiting list – don’t worry! We usually require at least one replacement during the games so there is a chance you’ll be contacted.
