Lunar Chronicles Edition: Day Four

BG_LunarC_header copy

Welcome to the Bookish Games, a variation of the game Mafia (aka Werewolf) that was previously hosted at A Bookish Heart and is now hosted at Oh, the Books! For each game, a popular YA book is chosen to be the theme and players are assigned different character roles and powers. Their end goal is to ensure that their team is the last one standing, even if they don’t know who their other teammates are!

If you are not signed up in the game, please refrain from commenting on these posts (otherwise they will be deleted). Instead, you can contact me on Twitter to gain access to a page where you can discuss the game with other players once they are eliminated.

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Lillian as Sybil Mira, Team Luna, Roleblocker
  • [NIGHT] Maraia as Human, Team Earth, Townie

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Oh my gosh, a baddy actually got eliminated! Good job Townies! I was starting to doubt if you would be able to pull yourselves together long enough to get one right. 😉

You have plenty to work with going into Day Four now. Using Lillian’s comments, references to Lillian other players have made, and the voting updates, you should be able to form some thoughts on how certain players may be aligned. There’s no guarantee that looking at all that will lead you on the right path to eliminating another Mafia member, but it puts you in a much better place than if another Townie were eliminated.

Of course, you did lose another Townie as a result of Night Three. Though Maraia did not have any special powers, she was quite active and analytical this go around, so maybe looking back at her comments may help you as well.

And for the Mafia member(s) still alive in the game, hang in there. It may be discouraging losing a teammate this early, but the game isn’t over until I say so. I have confidence you can still cause a great amount of chaos in this game. Good luck. (Not that I’m rooting for the bad guys or anything like that. I would never. I just thought since I give the Townies a pep talk every week, the Mafia deserves a pep talk this week as well.)

Have fun everyone!

It is now Day Four. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Daphne as Torin, Role Cop, Team Earth
  • [NIGHT] Dita as Human, Townie, Team Earth

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Well Team Earth, it looks like you’re seriously struggling. Two Days down, and both days you choose to eliminate a powerful ally. Ouch. Luckily there are still quite a few players left in the game. Hopefully you can turn this around before it’s too late.

As always, there’s plenty of roads you can travel down. You now know the alliance of three players in the game: Dita, Daphne, and Sebastian. You can choose to look back at interactions with these three to see if any information can be revealed. You can look at the votes and try to figure out if it was just Townies making innocent mistakes or Mafia members leading everyone astray. Or you can look at the people who didn’t vote and try to figure out why they didn’t choose to make a move when the votes were so close. The opportunities for where to go next are limitless.

And, of course, it looks like Team Earth is not lucky enough to avoid Night elimination two Nights in a row as Dita has now been eliminated. Sad times.

It is now Day Three. Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

Eliminated:

  • [DAY] Sebastian @ Büchermonster as Cinder, Team Earth, Jack-of-all-trades, Mechanical

Warnings/Disqualifications:

  • [WARNING] Christina @ Fairy Skeletons – did not meet comment minimum
  • [WARNING] Jeann @ Happy Indulgence – did not meet comment minimum

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Wow, I don’t think Day One could’ve ended any worse than it did. I mean, to eliminate the main character of the series on the very first Day? The one player with a special role that could do all of the things? Smooth Team Earth, smooth.

I get it, though. It was Day One. You guys didn’t have a lot to work with. But now it’s time to recover. There’s so many different paths you can take during Day Two, it’s just up to you to decide which ones to follow. Do you go back to looking at Jade, who had majority votes until the end? Do you look some more at Tory, whose vote didn’t settle well with some players? Or do you look at someone entirely different, maybe a player who has been hiding in the shadows?

Of course, you also have some other things to consider and possibly discuss during this Day. There were two players who received warnings as a result of not meeting the comment minimum during Day One of the Bookish Games. Do you eliminate them before they have a chance to get disqualified, or do you hold out in hopes that they’ll become active? And there seems to be no Night eliminations – the only person eliminated so far is Sebastian. You’ll have to decide whether that’s a good thing (maybe a successful roleblock? an immunity to the mafia’s ways?) or if something… twisty is going on.

Either way, I want to thank everyone for being so active during Day One (apart from the two players who received warnings). Day Ones of the Bookish Games can be quite hit or miss because of the limited information everyone has, so it was nice to see players swinging from the very beginning – even if one of those players are now no longer alive. Hopefully you guys can keep it up!

It is now Day Two! Everyone has until Wednesday 1pm EDT to discuss suspicions and cast their votes. Once the deadline has been reached, whoever has the most votes will be eliminated.

GAME MASTER’S NOTES

Some final tips and reminders before we start:

  • Because it is Day One, you really have nothing to base your votes or suspicions off of yet. Our main advice is just to have fun and vote however you want. More than likely, the first Day results in a lot of confusion and a good guy getting voted off, but you can still learn a lot of valuable things by observing who defends who and how people respond to being voted on.
  • When voting, please type your vote in ALL CAPS and on a separate line from the rest of your text so it is easy for Kelley and Asti to spot.
  • You can also choose not to vote. Votes can be canceled by commenting CANCEL VOTE at any time. But, as a warning to those on the side of the good guys, Day votes are practically your only opportunity to eliminate any evil forces in the game. Use them!
  • Please do not click the “Reply” button next to someone’s comment if you want to respond to what they’ve said. Instead, just type a new comment in response to the post and state within your comment who you are replying to (players usually do this by saying “@Name: Blah blah blah”).  This is requested so that comments appear in chronological order on the post.
  • It is assumed by now that you have read and agreed to the Bookish Games rules. Any violation of the rules will result in a warning, followed by a disqualification.
  • Lastly, all of the information for this game will be found on the Lunar Chronicles Edition page. In order to find this page, just click Special Features followed by Bookish Games. From there, click on the image for The Lunar Chronicles edition.

Lunar Chronicles Edition: Sign-Ups

We took a poll a while back for the next Bookish Games, and there was a pretty clear second place winner… and since it’s also Kelley’s favorite series EVER: this round of the Bookish Games is themed around The Lunar Chronicles! We did try to keep this one so that it focuses on Cinder, so you don’t need to have read the whole series just to play.

About the Bookish Games

Surely you all know what the Bookish Games are by now, right? Well, just in case you’ve been living under a rock…

The Bookish Games is a feature that Asti started while blogging at A Bookish Heart. It combines various books (usually YA) and Mafia to create an online interactive bookish game that takes place every couple of months. The previous editions of the Bookish Games included Harry PotterThe Hunger GamesDivergentDeath NoteReady Player One, and The Grisha. If you visit the pages for each, you’ll see the different set-ups, rules, players, and recaps of what took place in each game.

Basically, there are the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys have a smaller team but have the advantage of knowing the identity of their teammates. The good guys have a larger team, but know nothing other than their own personal identity. Each “Day” all players, good and bad, get together as one group and vote for one person to eliminate from the game. (The bad guys use this as their opportunity to sway the good guys to voting off one of their own, while the good guys use this time to try and figure out which side everyone is on based on what they say and how they vote.) Then, each “Night”, the bad guys get another chance to wreak havoc by communicating in a private chatroom and targeting one person to kill off in the game.

It sounds really confusing, and it slightly is, but those who sign up will be given a more in-depth description of the game in an email before the game starts. It always starts off a little slow in the beginning, but everyone quickly catches on and Kelley and Asti are always available if you need help!

The Sign-Ups

The game is going to start on Saturday, June 20th, which is two weeks from today. Sign-ups for the game will be open until Wednesday the 10th, and there are 20 spots available. As we have done in previous games, ideally we would like to have approximately half of the players be veterans and half be new players, but we will see how things go!

To sign up, just leave a comment below! We will be updating the sign-up list on this post as we check the comments. If you see your name on the main list, then you should expect to receive an email with further information within the week! And if you end up on the waiting list – don’t worry! We usually require at least one replacement during the games so there is a chance you’ll be contacted.
