Game Master’s Notes

Welcome to Day One of The Bookish Games: The 100. Over the next few weeks, you’ll be working towards achieving your goals, slowly eliminating one another while navigating the twists built into this game. We hope you’ll love what we have in store for you. This is our fifteenth edition, and I’m working with a co-host who loves The Hunger Games and The 100, so… consider this a kind of Quarter Quell. May the odds be ever in your favour. 😉

Before we begin, a few notes and reminders:

  • Please make sure you have read your Role email prior to commenting in the game.  (That first comment requirement is still in effect for this edition. Hint hint.)
  • It is also assumed by now that you have read and agreed to The Rules. Any violation of the rules will result in a warning, followed by a disqualification. (Don’t forget, you can get a pass if there’s a certain week you need to be excused from the participation rule. Just contact us!)
  • It is only Day One so there’s not much to work with yet. Our main advice is just to have fun and vote however you want in the beginning. Even if Day One ends with you murdering a teammate (oops), you will still learn a lot of valuable information by observing how the other players react and vote.
  • Player pronouns are listed next to player names on the Current Game page as well as on the player graphic. Please do your best to use a player’s correct pronouns when referencing them.
  • When voting, please type your vote in ALL CAPS and on a separate line from the rest of your text so it is easy for Shannon and me to spot. Votes are not final until the deadline, so you can choose to switch who you vote for throughout the Day. You can also choose not to vote. Votes can be canceled anytime by commenting CANCEL VOTE.
  • There is no option to “reply” to other comments on this blog. This is to ensure that all comments appear in chronological order. If you want to respond directly to someone else’s comment, we recommend starting your message with “@PlayerName:”.
  • We are currently using Greenwich Mean Time for game deadlines. A countdown has been added to the blog menu to assist players in knowing how much time they have left to vote. The countdown will switch from “x days” to “x hours” once below the 24 hour mark. (You can also use this link to see when the deadline occurs at your local time, just add your location and it’ll do the math for you)

As always, don’t be afraid to contact us if you have any questions or just want to chat in private about what’s going on during the Game. We are here to help and want to make this as fun of an experience as possible! If it’s urgent, keep our time zones in mind: Inge lives on CEST (GMT/UTC+1) and Shannon on ET (GMT/UTC-5).

It is now Day One.

You have until Sunday 7pm GMT to discuss suspicions and cast your votes. Once the deadline has been reached, the person with the most votes will be eliminated.

Good luck!

The 100: Sign-Ups

The Bookish Games

Welcome to The Bookish Games, an online version of the party game Mafia that has been floating around the internet since 2013. If you haven’t participated in the Games before and want to know what it’s all about, be sure to visit the links provided in the menu (to the left on computers, top of the page for mobiles). There you will find a rundown of how the game works, the rules all players must follow, and archives of the previous editions of The Bookish Games.

The main thing to be aware of if you are thinking about participating in The Bookish Games and haven’t played before is that this game requires a major time commitment. At the very least, you will have to dedicate an hour or two each week to The Bookish Games if you want to play it properly. The Bookish Games involves reading comments left by other players (generally over 100 comments per game Day), analysing information from comments and player deaths, contributing to the Day discussion, and submitting the Night Action form (if your assigned roles comes with an active power). Please take this into consideration before signing up to play.

(But also, don’t let that warning scare you off because these games ARE are a lot of fun. Check out our page of Testimonials or Player Interviews where players share some of the reasons why they love The Bookish Games.)

The 100 Edition

Okay, first of all, can you believe that this is our fifteenth edition?! This is absolutely bonkers to me, and I wanted to thank all our players from the past, present, and future for your continued love and dedication to this crazy project of ours.

This edition of The Bookish Games is themed around the first 3 seasons of the series The 100, based on the book by Kass Morgan.

Watching The 100 is not a requirement in order to join The Bookish Games, but please be aware that spoilers from the series (and possibly the book) will likely be revealed during the game. Not only do players like to use their knowledge to attempt to make sense of the game, but the game set-up itself usually involves a spoiler or two.

Sign-Up to Play!

The deadline for sign-ups is Saturday, January 9th at 9pm GMTwith the games starting on Wednesday, January 13th at 7pm GMT.

SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED.

If you would like to be added to the Spectator Chat, a place where you can share your thoughts about the game with the moderators, eliminated players, and other spectators, please leave a comment below with some ways of contacting you (e.g. Twitter account).

Just a little note that Asti will not be hosting or playing during this edition, as she’s busy growing a human larva inside her belly. She is, however, responsible for the always amazing graphics that feature our posts, and she will be cheering you on from the Spectator Chat. It’s just me and my good pal Shannon this round. But don’t worry. You’re in good hands. Ish. 😉

Good luck, players! We can’t wait to see what madness and shenanigans will unfold this time. 😈

See you soon,

Inge & Shannon

BYOC2: Night Six

BYOC2

It Is Night Six.

Welcome Mafia! It is now your chance to openly discuss your evil plans. You may talk about what’s happened so far, brainstorm strategies to survive the next Day, laugh at how clueless the Townies are – whatever your heart desires.

Here are your main objectives during the Night as a Mafia made up of Arsonists (apart from the general evil scheming, of course):

  1. Determine which player you would like to PRIME for elimination. A player must be primed before they can be ignited. (Think of this as you dousing the target with gasoline, ready for a lit match.)
  2. Determine which Mafia teammate you would like to send to complete the priming. If the Mafia teammate being sent is roleblocked, killed, or affected by some relevant Night action the priming will not be successful. You are not notified when this is the case. Choose wisely.
  3. If choosing to also IGNITE players during a Night, determine which Mafia teammate you would like to send to complete the ignition. The same player cannot complete both priming and igniting actions during the same Night. Using the ignite power will ignite all players that have been previously primed up to that point.

Remember: Players must be primed before they can be ignited.

Once you have decided on these objectives, please have one of your team members submit your decisions to the Moderators by completing the Night Action form.

You only have 48 hours to make a decision. The Night phase ends each Tuesday 9pm BST. A countdown has been added to the sidebar to assist you in determining how much time you have left each phase.

Remember: Your goal is to outlast and eliminate any other team. Use your kills wisely, and do your best to keep your team alive.

Game Master’s Notes

Look! The same people who decided Day Five’s vote get to decide Day Six’s vote. What could possibly go wrong? Another long Day that ends in a tie? Oh boy, let’s hope not.

To avoid the Day lasting longer than necessary with so few players left, a new rule is now in effect for the remainder of this game. If ALL remaining players make a vote and indicate it is their FINAL vote for the Day, the votes will be tallied and the Day will end.

To indicate that your vote is final and that you are happy to confirm your vote as your final vote for the Day, please submit (or re-submit) your vote as:

VOTE: PLAYER
FINAL

Once you’ve indicated your vote is final, you cannot change it. Even if the Day isn’t called early, a final vote will be unable to be changed. As a result, make sure you are happy to stand by your vote when marking it as a final.

(Note: Players will not need to meet the minimum comment requirement if the Day is called early.)

Also, just to reassure everyone still alive, the game hasn’t been called because there is still no guarantee of which alliance will win. Once I’m certain without a doubt that an alliance has secured the win, the game will be officially confirmed as over.

It is now Day Six.

You have until Sunday 9pm BST to discuss suspicions and cast your votes. Once the deadline has been reached, the person with the most votes will be eliminated.

Good luck!
